B.A. Honours (Subjects)

  • Bengali, English, Sanskrit, History, Political Science, Philosophy, Economics, Music, Geography, Education.
  • Students have to opt for two subjects (excluding the subject in which Honours course is taken) taking one from any two of the groups.
  • Compulsory subjects: Bengali, English and Environmental Studies (Only for 3rd Year in Part—III).

B.A. (General)

Three subjects taking one each from the following three groups:

· Group A Bengali, English, Geography, Education
· Group B Sanskrit, Physical Education, Mathematics, Political Science, Music
· Group C History, Economics, Philosophy, Sociology

B. Com. Honours: Accounting and Finance

B. Com General: All General Papers

B. Sc. Honours: Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics

B. Sc. General: Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics

Admission Process

Admission of students commences as soon as the results of Higher Secondary Examination are declared by the West Bengal Council of Higher Secondary Education. Details about the Admission Rules and Regulations can be found at the college website at

The students are admitted strictly on the basis of merit. The merit is determined as per the following rules prescribed by the University.

Students who pass Higher Secondary or equivalent examination(10+2) with minimum 45% marks in the aggregate (to be calculated by adding the marks obtained in “Best Five” subjects) or 50% marks in the subject or related subject are eligible to apply for admission in the honours course.

  • Students carrying pass marks in at least five subjects are eligible to apply for admission in general course.
  • Admission is done on merit basis. Merit point for admission in honours course is calculated by adding 10% of total marks obtained in the ‘Best Five’ subjects at higher secondary/ equivalent examination and the marks obtained in the subject or a related subject in which the admission in honours course is sought.
  • Merit point for admission in General Course is calculated by adding the marks obtained in ‘Best Five’ subjects at higher secondary/equivalent examination.
  • For admission in General and Honours course, a student must have passed in two language subjects of which one must be English at Higher Secondary/Equivalent examination.
  • Any candidate seeking admission with Economics (Hons.) or Accountancy (Hons.) must have obtained 45% marks in mathematics in Madhyamik /equivalent examination or must have passed in Mathematics in Higher Secondary / Equivalent Examination.
  • Students passing Higher Secondary Examination from Vocational stream, conducted by W.B.C.H.S. Education or any other equivalent Board/Council may apply for admission in General course only.
  • Vidyasagar University has introduced CBSC System for the students of B.Sc. (Hons.) students from the current session.

Under Continuous Publication Model

We are inviting papers and book reviews on any topic under the following broad disciplines throughout the year. Once the review process of the individual articles is completed, we will publish the articles throughout the year. As per the volume of contents, the articles will make an issue. At the end of the year the issues will be printed as a Volume.

  • Social Sciences: History, Archaeology, Philosophy, Psychology, Political Science, Public Administration, Education, Sociology, Sports Studies (Physical Education)

Content Types

We consider the following content types for publication:

  • Critical papers: Full-fledged critical articles (3000-5000 words).
  • Research findings: Reports from researches already under process may be sent as interim report (1000-2000 words).
  • Surveys: Findings from survey as critical report may be submitted (2000-3000 words).
  • Short communications: Scholarly findings or new insights into some area may be sent (1000-1500 words).
  • Conference/seminar papers: Conference/seminar papers (minimum 2000 words) may be submitted provided that the permission is taken from the organizers
  • Review of books not older than 2 years (500+ words)

About the College

Bhatter College, Dantan was established by the local residents of Dantan with a vision of providing higher educationin the locality. The college was established on 5th December, 1963 with the help of Mathuranath Bhatter. Ours is a grant-in-aid type of co-educational college affiliated to Vidyasagar University.  Aim of the National Seminar

The present seminar will throw light mainly on the recent aspects of History. The aim of the Seminar is to discuss the issues which have arrested the attention of present-day researchers. It also aims to focus on new perspectives of historical researches like urban development, behavioral history, race, gender, environment as main components of historical studies.

  • Colonial Expansion and its impact on Ecology.
  • Environmental History and Politics in Post-Colonial India.
  • The Industrial Revolution and the Politics of Environment.
  • Theories of Environment.
  • Genesis of the cultivation of Gender-History.. Gender, Conflict and Nationalism.
  • Gender, Colonialism and Post Colonialism
  • Ethnicity, Race, and Racism.
  • Race and Media.
  • Urbanization in Pre-Colonial & Post Colonial India.
  • Development of urban culture.

Call for Papers

Unpublished and Original Papers related to the above mentioned topics are invited from academicians, professionals and research scholars.

The papers should be strictly within 3000 (Three thousand) words. Papers should be sent in Bengali or English in Ms WORD 2003/2007 format, 12 point, Times New Roman font and Avro, double spaced).

The abstract of the proposed paper of about 250-300 words is to be sent as an email attachment to The selected papers, presented in the Seminar will be published as a book with ISBN.
